Our Mission

In the darkest circumstances & most heartbreaking of times, we have realised we need to help others. Subarachnoid Haemorrhage is sadly underresearched. The Billie Elizabeth Wood Trust has one mission, to fund research into the trauma that led to Billie’s tragic death & prevent this from happening to others.

Billie died on 13th May 2020. She was 25 years old. Fit and healthy with no pre-existing conditions. Despite this, she was lucky to survive the initial haemorrhage. As it stands today, the chances of surviving the first 48 hours after suffering a SAH is 50%.

There were no warning signs.

We grew to learn that SaH affects a significant number of otherwise healthy people every year, with a startling skew towards young women. BEWT has been established with the goal to prevent a tragedy like this from ever happening again.

By examining exactly what happened to Billie, step by step, we are working with the acclaimed Southmead Neurological Department in Bristol to generate world-leading research. Together, we have now raised over £240,000 to help fund vital research around Vasospasms.

To learn more about Billie, please see Billie’s Story and to know more about SaH, Vasospasms and the research BEWT plans to fund, please have a look at the research.

With your help, we believe we can shift the odds of survival in our favour. We believe that we can prevent the world from losing someone like Billie ever again. And our promise is to work until this becomes a reality.
